Beautiful images! I think part of the appeal of old educational illustrations aside from that lovely anonymous watercolour/gouache technique is the printing process of that time: the pre-digital colours look slightly musty and a little blurred. All sorts of nostalgic associations and imaginings are sparked off in the viewer.
